Not every return can be avoided, and no tool guarantees a fixed reduction. Focus on what you control: accurate contact details, realistic delivery expectations and quick follow-up. Record return reasons consistently so you can improve packing, communication and courier choices with your own experience.
01How do I write a delivery address?
Include recipient name, house or flat number, building or street, locality, city, state and a six-digit pincode. Put a nearby landmark in its own field and confirm a working mobile number. A landmark helps the rider but cannot replace a complete address or correct pincode.
02Is an estimated delivery date guaranteed?
An estimate uses the selected service and route; actual transit can change with pickup timing, holidays, weather or operational delays. Quote a realistic window to buyers and distinguish dispatch time from transit time. Check updated tracking before promising a date, especially around festivals or for remote destinations.
03What does a failed delivery attempt mean?
It means the courier recorded a reason the parcel was not handed over. Read the reason and confirm the buyer’s account of what happened. A wrong phone number, unavailable recipient or address problem needs a different fix from an incorrect courier scan. Respond through the official NDR link or seller support as soon as possible.
04How do I request another delivery attempt?
Use the official failed-delivery response link if available, or contact the seller with your AWB and a reachable phone. Confirm whether you want delivery, the correct directions and when you can receive it. A requested date or address correction is subject to seller rules and courier acceptance; it is not guaranteed until confirmed.
05How should I budget for return-to-origin costs?
Estimate monthly shipped orders × expected return rate × return charge, and add forward charges and packaging already spent on those orders. For 500 orders with 10% returns, that is 50 returned parcels. Use your own recent return rate and the selected courier’s return slab; this is a cost estimate, not a forecast.
06How is RTO different from a customer return?
Return to origin happens when the original forward shipment is not delivered and goes back to the sender. A customer return starts after delivery, under the seller’s return policy, and normally requires a separate reverse booking. Keep these categories separate in your records because approvals, charges and refund decisions differ.
Before your next shipment
- Confirm address and COD intent before dispatch.
- Give a specific next action for each NDR.
- Review return reasons every week.
Examples are for planning. Your selected courier, booking quote and applicable policy determine the actual service and charges.
